The professional skills of a dressmaker are based on education. In Finland, pukuompelija (dressmaker), artisaani, artenomi and vestonomi are the degrees one can achieve in vocational studies (3-4 years).
Sinikka Laine has the degree of vaatetussuunnittelija (clothing designer). It's an old degree; among the new ones, the closest equivalent is artenomi. In the degree also the training of a dressmaker is included.
